Notley & Co has always been about tradition, heritage, classic building techniques and beautiful restoration, but we're also keeping an eye on the future of our industry.
Technology does not always produce worthwhile advancements. It is important to properly understand the requirements of each client, and make appropriate recommendations for their specific project.
A Smart Home is not an individual thing, your home isn't either 'Smart', or 'not smart', it's a sliding scale. The general principal is the increased connectivity of appliances in your home, from your lights to your kettle, and the ability to manage that device or appliance from a computer, or your phone, or even your watch.
Internet of things
The thing that makes this possible, is the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things, or the IOT, is exactly the same as the internet that you already know, accept rather than connecting computers together, the idea is that it will connect every appliance/device/vehicle etc together. Your fridge and freezer, your car, your lights and heating. There have been countless amazing use cases for the IOT, from early defence systems detecting earthquakes, to picking up cardiac arrest while the patient is still sleeping via a smart watch, and signalling the emergency services complete with up-todate vitals.
While the mind races at the potential here, there are of course huge security risks to consider for the tech giants manufacturing these new, smarter things.
In our industry the IOT will allow us to provide our renovations, restorations and new buildings with up-to-date technological functionality making homes far more energy efficient.
